We must protect the European Convention on Human Rights like it protects us

This technique along with the narrative story allows the reader to engage with the article and relate to the characters that the story is portraying. The author is trying to open up the readers mind as to why we would relate to these characters, evident by the line 'The truth is that the three little pigs are us. And so is the wolf.' By opening the article with this theory, it draws in the attention of a wide audience, as we would want to know why the author is making these assumptions about us without even knowing us.
The author uses emotional language such as 'hate' and 'murder' within the line 'The Holocaust wasn't just caused by charismatic leaders, it was the result of millions of ordinary people collaborating with campaigns of discrimination, hate and murder.' These choice of words evokes a feeling of guilt within the reader, as they have realised that the people that have caused millions of deaths for the Jews are ordinary people, just like the reader. It makes them realise and reflect on the impact that these people have had on the Holocaust. the author also uses an oxymoron: 'terrifyingly normal' to describe this scenario. It makes it clear that was has happened isn't right, as normal members of society have taken part in murderous and hate-filled decisions.
